The A.R. was the first aircraft flown by the 12th Aero Squadron. Called "Antique Rattletraps" crews from the 12th flew these obsolete aircraft in 1918 over the Toul sector.

Considered one of the finest observation aircraft of the war, the French Salmson was a welcome replacement to the A.R.s flown by the 12th Aero Squadron. The Salmson was sleek, sturdy and well armed making it an ideal platform for reconnaissance work.

For a brief period, the 12th flew the fighter version of the P-51 performing fighter escort missions. Pictured is "Little Honey" the F-6

reconnaissance version of the P-51 assigned to Lt. Donald Lynch.

Better known as the P-51 Mustang, the F-6 was the reconnaissance variant of this legendary aircraft. The 12th primarily flew the F-6 on armed tactical reconnaissance missions for Gen Patton's 3rd Army. Pictured is "Hun Flusher" flown by Lt. Charles  "Chuck" Kenyon of the 12th TRS.
